John Cleese attempted to stir the hornets nest on his anti ‘cancel culture’ agenda, berating the BBC for not showing repeats of Monty Python.
The actor asked his 5M+Twitter followers: “Can anyone (including BBC employees) tell me why the BBC has not shown Monty Python for a couple of decades?”
Well how about the rights deals done for the Monty Python back catalogue. The show and movies all stream on Netflix in the UK. The rights to Monty Python are owned by Python (Monty) Pictures. Cleese, Palin, Idle and Gilliam are all executive directors at the UK company.

John Hoare, a TV director, replied to the Cleese tweet reminding him of the night dedicated to Python on the BBC. “I sat in BBC Two’s press suite on the 7th September 2019, prepped an episode of Monty Python for transmission as part of an evening of Python-related programmes, and then put it on air, if that helps.”

Review of Christmas Carole

avingagiraffe.com
4.5/5

A quite brilliant retelling of the Charles Dickens classic – this contemporary take starring the superb Suranne Jones as Carole Mackay who, in building a retail empire selling Christmas tat, has developed a Scroogelike obsession with wealth, will become one of your go-to festive favourites. Christmas Carole is so well conceived and written by Anil Gupta and Richard Pinto that it passes by all too quickly deserving to be watched again and again. Of course at this time of year you will find one or two old chestnuts in it.

Suranne Jones is brilliant, who knew she could dance?  The rest of the cast is excellent too with a stand out performance by Jonty Stephens as Eric Morecambe.

Don’t miss it!

This new Netflix workplace comedy is dire. Not a laugh in it. Even the story is yawn inducing. With more staff than customers it’s easy to see why the franchise didn’t survive in the streaming environment. Cannot believe that this hapless, uninspiring sitcom will get a second season.

Additional cast members include Siobhan McSweeney (Jen’s mum, Mary), Robbie Gee (Jen’s stepdad, Ian), Safia Oakley-Green (Jen’s half-sister, Andy), and Ned Porteous (Luke).

Christmas Highlights from Sky Max & Now

The Unofficial Science of Home Alone

Comedians Alex Brooker, Guz Khan and James Acaster are all superfans of the classic 1990 comedy Home Alone, starring Macauley Culkin as Kevin McAllister. the forgotten kid who is accidentally left behind by his family when they leave on a family Christmas holiday.

As they will attest, the highlight of the perennial Yuletide classic is when Kevin must defend his home from the inept “Wet Bandits”, two clueless burglars who take on much more than they bargain for thanks to some inventive traps set by our pint-sized hero. But, more than thirty years on, and with a more world-weary eye, they have one thing on their minds: would those booby traps actually work?  And so, overseen by Alex and with the help of a professional engineer, Guz and James will be putting Kevin’s homemade home defences to the test by re-enacting the famous stunts. Is a swinging paint can enough to stop a full-sized man from ascending the stairs? Is there any way to overcome slippery ice-covered steps? And could taking a falling iron to the face actually be fatal? The science won’t lie.

Fifty years after the events of the classic fairy-tale, a grown-up Red Riding Hood has established a fearsome reputation within the village of Wolferton as a deadly Wolf Buster, hunting down wolves with her Wolf Blaster and ridding them from the forest forever. Red’s eager and intelligent granddaughter Red Riding Boots wants desperately to become a Wolf Buster herself, having listened to her grandmother tell the famous story many times.

When two wealthy German tourists Helga and Otto arrive demanding to see a real-life wolf, Plank and his son Chip do their best to con as much money out of them as possible, even if that involves Chip going into the deep dark forest all alone.  Boots takes matters into her own hands and hunts down a wolf where she learns from a wise old owl called Twit that the forest is suffering and out of balance, making Mother Nature very angry that the natural order of the forest is being disrupted. Boots decides that she must save wolves from extinction after all.

Carole Mackay (Jones) is an unashamedly outspoken and wealthy entrepreneur. Her online business selling all things festive has earned her a fortune, as well as the nickname ‘Christmas Carole’. But her success hasn’t made her a better human being. In fact, it’s made her worse. The truth is that Carole is a monumentally mean person. Positively Scrooge-like. And, just like Ebeneezer, she doesn’t love Christmas at all. But this Christmas Eve, Carole’s past, present and future are about to collide. Will some rather familiar Christmas spirits help her discover the true spirit of Christmas?

The Scene That Triggered A Real Romance

Kaley Cuoco and Johnny Galecki dated for two years. The pair, who starred as Penny and Leonard on the hit sitcom from 2007 to 2019, secretly dated from 2008 to 2010. Although they didn’t didn’t hook up until the end of the first series, Cuoco had  a “very big crush” on Galecki early on, which she revealed in the book The Big Bang Theory: The Definitive, Inside Story of the Epic Hit Series,

“All the scenes up until we actually got together in real life, it was obvious there was always something there,” she recalled. “There was chemistry and we were crushing on each other. That was the whole first season until we actually got together for real.”

The scene that they both agreed was the moment they fell in love was in The Nerdvana Annihilation in which Leonard has a dream that he saves Penny, Tarzan style, in the broken elevator shaft. In the scene, Penny is holding tightly on to Leonard and share a kiss before it flashes back to a sleeping Leonard. Cuoco said “I think we fell a little in love in that elevator shaft.”

Galecki agreed that they “felt something” Cuoco added, “I was like, ‘Uh‑oh.’ I was crushing so hard on him. So much so that I was like, ‘Get me out of here,’ because he had to hold me up and we had to do this really close thing. Even my cheeks were really red.”

The couple dated secretly for two years — keeping it from the rest of the cast. In the end, Galecki said his “strict policies of privacy” was one of the main factors that the romance ended.
