Abbott Elementary Hilarious Sitcom

If you have Disney+ or Hulu and haven’t watched Abbott Elementary yet – do so.

Hilarious is an adjective all too often applied to comedy shows that do little more than raise a smile but with Abbott Elementary the epithet is fully justified.

In this workplace mockumentary style comedy, a group of dedicated, passionate teachers

– and a slightly tone-deaf principal – are brought together in a Philadelphia public school where, despite the odds stacked against them, they are determined to help their students succeed in life. Though these incredible public servants may be outnumbered and underfunded, they love what they do – even if they don’t love the school district’s less-than-stellar attitude toward educating children.

You might have to watch it twice as the gags come so thick and fast you might miss some while you’re laughing. The delivery by the outstanding award winning cast together with looks to camera are a delight. Ted Lasso is very good and fully deserves its plethora of awards and plaudits but Abbott Elementary is will make you laugh more and equally deserves all the awards going.

Starring Quinta Brunson (who also created the show) as Janine Teagues, Tyler James Williams as Gregory Eddie, Janelle James as Ava Coleman, Chris Perfetti as Jacob Hill, Lisa Ann Walter as Melissa Schemmenti and Sheryl Lee Ralph as Barbara Howard.

Quinta Brunson won the Emmy for Outstanding Writing For a Comedy Series tonight, making her only the second Black woman to win in the category after Lena Waithe.

Her win marked the second Emmy win for Abbott Elementary, after Sheryl Lee Ralph’s win in the Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series category. Ralph thanked Brunson in her acceptance speech for approaching her about the role and giving her the “golden ticket” to win this year.

 Season 2 has begun airing but do catch up with season 1. It’s worth the subscription alone.
