Amanda Holden and Alan Carr are rolling up their sleeves to restore a crumbling property in Scicily in yet another restoration reality programme although this will combine with an element of travelogue.
Viewers who have seen Carr’s comical attempts to assist contestants on ‘Interior Design Masters’ will wonder what qualifies him for this gig – apart from his ability to wince when getting his hands dirty. The show will be called Amanda and Alan: The Italian Job. Let’s hope they don’t have to blow any bloody doors off.
Amanda Holden says: “Alan and I came up with the idea for this show together and approached the BBC as we knew it was the perfect home. We are both very passionate about interior design and we’ll be very hands on, injecting some much needed life into an area of Sicily that’s in need of some Holden & Carr magic.”
The duo join a number of ‘One Euro’ home buyers, purchasing their own slice of heaven at a bargain price in a little town nestled in the sun-kissed hills of rural Sicily. Many Italian municipalities, in a bid to bring new life into villages and small towns with depleting populations, offer decrepit houses for sale for a symbolic ‘One Euro’ price to be renovated for use once more. Alan and Amanda’s property is one of the many empty properties being sold at rock-bottom prices.
Whilst they’ll try their hand at everything – from plumbing to painting and plastering – they’ll be drafting in local tradespeople to show them the ropes and help keep the project on track.
We can only hope that Holden’s ‘Nan’ doesn’t show up to help.
