Stewart Lee’s latest monthly newsletter, in which the comedian reviews all the culture he consumed in 2021, has resulted in reactions trending on Twitter. The list of people on his ‘put in the Pedal Bin’ list and conversely his ‘put on a pedestal’ list has caused the biggest reaction.
More than 6000 tweets in response to his lists have been posted not all condemning the outspoken comic. Much of the condemnation stems from his inclusion of Nimko Abi on the pedal bin list.
Nimko Ali OBE is the social activist co-founder and CEO of The Five Foundation, the global partnership to end female genital mutilation.
Actress Amanda Abbington tweeted “I used to like #StewartLee Why on earth would you say that about the glorious and wonderful woman that is @NimkoAli She is one of the most incredible females and does more for women and girls than anyone I know. Shame on him. Idiot.”
Tracey-Ann Oberman said “Anyone who can reduce @NimkoAli and her work and what she stands for by ‘putting her in the bin’ has jumped the relevance shark . Or is being perversely ironic . Similarly that same man puts Ash Sakar on his ‘pedestal’ in red. Ignore him. Pointless.”
Ironically Lee is not on Twitter nor any other form of social media but no doubt his wife, comedian Bridget Christie, will keep her husband up-to-date with events.
Stewart Lee is on tour in 2022 and as they say ‘all publicity is good publicity’.

It’s because she broke lockdown rules by being Boris and Carrie Johnson’s guest at Christmas 2020. Nice to see these irrelevant actresses truthfully nailing their colours to the Tory mast for once
