The new Soho Theatre Live on Prime Video is a series of stand-up sets from 10 brilliant but in the main underexposed comedians. We’ll review one a day over the next 10 days starting today with Catherine Bohart’s Immaculate.
Catherine is not as underexposed as several of the other comedians in this series, having appeared on many panel shows including 8 Out of 10 Cats and Richard Osman’s House of Games as well as The Mash Report. She has also written for several shows including Frankie Boyle’s New World Order.
Catherine’s observational, R rated rather than X rated hour long set is based on her Catholic upbringing in Ireland, coming out to her parents as gay/bi-sexual and her OCD for which she spent some months in hospital. It’s a very accomplished and funny performance in which she engages with the audience members just enough to link the dialogue to her story without causing them too much embarrassment. So you can watch it in the comfort and safety of your own home in the certain knowledge that you will not get drawn into any of the banter.
The basis of the set was first performed by her at the Edinburgh Festival to rave reviews.
It’s a great start to the Prime Video presentation and is highly recommended.
