Shock: a new quiz show that Romesh Ranganathan isn’t hosting

Believe it or not there’s a new quiz show that Romesh Ranganathan isn’t hosting. Jimmy Carr is.

Ranganathan seems to be a favourite choice for new shows at the moment. In addition to being the new host of ‘A League of Their Own’, the ‘Weakest Link’ and the forthcoming ‘Misinvestigations Of’’ series, the talented Ranganathan can be seen on Sky’s ‘Rob and Romesh vs…. ‘ series as well as repeats of his ‘Misadventures’ series’. It would not have been a surprise to see him take the chair of ‘Countdown’ vacated by Nick Hewer before Ann Robinson got the gig.

So it was against the trend to see that the very funny Jimmy Carr will host ‘I Literally Just Told You’, a new comedy quiz show created by Richard Bacon for Channel 4 this autumn. Carr hosted 8 Out of 10 Cats and currently hosts 8 Out Of 10 Cats Does Countdown and The Big Fat Quiz programmes as well as being a judge on I Can See Your Voice.

‘I Literally Just Told You’ is based on contestants’ ability to remember what happens during the course of the show.

Richard Bacon told The Times: ‘Every five minutes or so the players are quizzed on the last five minutes. The heart of the idea is we write the questions as the show is happening. So when the show starts, at least half the questions in the show have not been written and we write it based on what happens live.”

He added, ‘We made a pilot and by the end there’s just beads of sweat dripping down their faces.’

Carr is also working on a pilot show called ‘Value for Funny’ asking members of the public to share their best true-life stories

Richard Bacon, the former Blue Peter presenter, also came up with the format for BBC One’s This Is My House, in which judges Judi Love, Bill Bailey, Emily Atack and Jamali Maddix had to guess who was telling the truth about living in a specific house.
